Mary to play Nina Simone in upcoming movie
Mary J. is diverse in her range and stylings, but she can also delve outside the music realm into the acting world.
She has been chosen to act in an untitled project about Nina Simone, the late, great jazz singer. The movie will chronicle Nina's life story, of being an amazingly talented, moving and emotionally charged jazz musician and classical pianist. The film will include Nina’s relationship with her manager Cliff Henderson and her rise to fame.
Mary’s dad was a jazz musician, so it's in her blood. Plus she recorded “About You” on "The Breakthrough" album with samples from Nina’s songs, so she was perfect for the role.
The film has a general release date TBD, but it’s slated for some time in 2007.
